Alluring and nostalgic, the images that are part of the series “Rebuilt” were meant to call to mind the glamorous and sexy hot rod portraits of the 50s and 60s. My take on this classic theme investigates (or rather pulls apart) our notions of sex and the female image.

The subjects of these portraits are all male to female transsexuals.

Born in male bodies, these women have, through hormones, surgery and serious self discovery, changed their physical sex. They have chosen, through social rejection and prejudice, to Rebuild themselves to reflect their true self. Stripped apart and Rebuilt to reveal their unfulfilled beauty.
